August 6, 2006, 12:50am

Few things are better than seeing friends and having good food. Mark, thank you so much! You're right. I don't really like Hollywood.

It's just like Causeway Bay. So crowded and noisy everywhere. A monster scared Ling and me. He's touching us from the back. Ling ran and we said he scared her boy! And the monster apologized. What a polite monster. :)

I also went to Sainta Monica Beach and again, it's a lot of people everywhere. I prefer Oceanside City Beach much more. Just relax and little worry about the pickpockets.

I was in awe. Ling took me to the Chinese grocery store 99 in San Diego. They have living seafood and all the food I have missed for a year. I could only go online to search for pictures to see when I was in Florida!

Just any ordinary things in the cities would surprise me after living in a small college town for one year. I should go for a post-doc in California!

August 3, 2006, 10:55pm

I was in the UC San Diego aquarium today. For most things in the tanks, the kids would say it's Nemo!

See Dory?

I always like the ray. I had a drawing of many water animals in the bible study textbook when I was in P. 1. It's the chapter about god created the sea and the water animals. I didn't believe such a weird animal existed. I thought people drew such a picture out of pure imagination. When I finally saw the rays in TV, I began longing to see a real one.

Finally, I saw many today! I also touched a baby shark!!!

The seahorse is also strange-looking. Weird.

The most weird of all, the crabs. I always have the feeling that crabs are from the outer space. They look really strange with their small eyes and legs.

The UCSD library is a really good place. I really like the view outside the window though the weather is not very good today.

August 2, 2006, 9:54pm, San Diego time

Just to upload pictures.

July 22, 2006

I was in transit in Les Vegas. First time to see a mountain in a year. Arrived at Oakland.

Irene's father-in-law treated me with wonderful Hong Kong style food. Didn't have good Chinese food for one year already.

July 25, 2006

This is one of the best views I like in the Mills College. Dr. Ravenna Helson conducted the classic study of personality development in the 1960s. The study continues until today.

July 26, 2006

This is several blocks north of the UC Berkeley campus, Bryce's old neighborhood.

July 27, 2006

I was in the Civic Center area in San Francisco. It's just too much walking so I stayed in the public library the whole afternoon reading and resting.

July 28, 2006

Stanford psychology, with Irene.

July 30, 2006

I was biking in San Francisco from Fisherman's Wharf to Golden Gate Bridge, return trip. I don't know how I could make it. I wanted to give up don't know how many times. My knees were first tired, then got painful. Then I fell on the way back. My knee got the bruise and the butt is still in pain.

I also walked to Chinatown and the financial district.

The cold wind on the Golden Gate was like biting my skin off. My skin was red and painful when I was there taking pictures for only a few minutes.

July 31, 2006

Arrived at San Diego.

August 1, 2006

TV whole day. Didn't want to have even poorer knees and worse sunburn.

August 2, 2006

I originally planned to go fishing in Oceanside City Beach. Well, I thought I only need a rod and baits. Then, I saw people with a chair, a bucket, and so many other things. I was simply unprepared. Then I decided to watch people fishing.

Well, don't know if I can surf one day. I really want to try. Let me work hard with swimming first.

I just love the pelicans. I was so close to them. So many times they're just flying right above me. This one was asking for fish.

I don't really know how it can digest the whole fish.

I got to put this image in my desktop. Oh, poor me. I will have to miss the ocean when I am in Colorado.
